Whistler (pps) Three weeks before the beginning of the Viessmann World Cup season in Innsbruck-Igls at the end of November, Canada’s head coach Wolfgang Staudinger named the members of Canada’s World Cup squad. The Canadian team, which was presented at a press conference in Whistler, is led by Regan Lauscher in women’s singles, Jeff Christie in men’s singles and Chris Moffat/Mike Moffat in doubles.
Besides Lauscher, who achieved Canada’s best World Cup result ever when she captured the silver medal at the 2004/2005 Viessmann World Cup in Lake Placid (USA), the women’s team will consist of World Championships ninth-placer Meaghan Simister and Alex Gough. Jeff Christie, who posted five top-15 finishes in the 2007/2008 World Cup season, will be accompanied by World Championships ninth-placer Sam Edney and by Ian Cockerline, who finished 15th at the World Championships in Oberhof. In doubles, the German Staudinger only named the two-time Olympians Chris and Mike Moffat.
