Whistler (pps) Germany’s lugers have left their mark at the 44th World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Whistler (Canada) and claimed all possible gold medals. The black-red-golden quartet in the line-up with Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt won the title in the Team Relay event. It was the second gold medal in Whistler for each of the four lugers. Since the World Championship première of the Team Relay event in 2008, Germany has always claimed the title.
One year prior to the debut of the Team Relay event at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, host Canada won the silver medal. The Canadian quartet with Alex Gough, Sam Edney and Tristan Walker-Justin Snith were cheered on by the spectators who created a great atmosphere at the Whistler Sliding Center. The bronze medal surprisingly went to Latvia in the line-up with Eliza Tiruma, Einars Kivlenieks and Andris Sics-Juris Sics. It is Latvia’s third World Championship bronze medal in the Team Relay event after 2008 and 2009.
