Canada’s “Helmets for Heroes” initiative raises almost $3,000

Calgary (RWH) The Canadian luge team has raised nearly $3,000 for charity through its “Helmets for Heroes” project. The helmets were auctioned online, fetching a grand total of 2,850 Canadian dollars. The helmet belonging to Arianne Jones, named “21st Century Reading”, brought in 950 dollars alone. The proceeds will be donated to the Creative Impact Health Foundation, a charitable organisation.
Canada’s luge team, including the two-time World Championship bronze medallist Alex Gough, fifth-placed Olympian Kim McRae, and the doubles pairing of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith (fourth at the Olympics), launched the Put A Lid On It initiative during the 2015/2016 winter season. Children and young people who themselves had suffered brain injuries designed helmets for the athletes to wear. All members of the national team wore the distinctive headgear at all Viessmann World Cups and during the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Championships.
