Canadian Luge Community Rallies Behind Garrett Reid

Vancouver (RWH) Canada’s luge community is rallying behind their injured teammate, Garrett Reid, in his recovery from a crash that occurred last fall at the National Team’s home training centre in Whistler, B.C. A member of Canada’s NextGen Team since 2018, the 16-year-old Reid has been making significant progress in his recovery while in Vancouver hospital since he experienced a serious accident during a training session on November 16. This was now published by the Canadian Luge Association in Vancouver.
“Garrett is a talented athlete, a great teammate and most importantly a wonderful young man who we are thinking of every day,” said Sam Edney, high-performance manager, Luge Canada.
Reid, who grew up in West Vancouver, was completing his final training runs alongside his teammates when the accident occurred. They had all been nominated to Canada’s Youth Olympic Games Team and were getting ready to depart for Europe to compete on the Junior World Cup.
Following regular safety protocols, Luge Canada and the Whistler Sliding Centre completed a review of the incident that resulted in a head injury to Reid. “Thanks to the tremendous immediate care from the staff and paramedics at the track, Garrett was quickly transported to a Vancouver hospital where he has been receiving the best possible care. While he has been making steady improvement with his mother Leesa, Father Ken and brother Parker by his side, Garrett has a long recovery ahead of him.”
