Complete success: Germany also wins Team relay
Oberhof (FIL): This time the equation worked out at the EBERSPÄCHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW: winner in women's plus winner in men's plus winner in doubles equals the winner of the separately run Team Relay.
Dajana Eitberger, Felix Loch as well as Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken won with 0.036 seconds ahead of the Austrian quartet of Madeleine Egle, Jonas Müller, Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller in Oberhof. "The joy about second place is bigger than the disappointment about the narrowly missed victory," said Egle. And Thomas Steu said about the importance of the relay: "It's already a different thing than the double competition, because we don't want to disappoint the other two."
Poland's relay team surprisingly finished third, 1.118 seconds behind. Italy, winners in Altenberg a week ago, finished fourth 1.126 seconds behind in the 1059-meter-long ice track after botched runs by Andrea Vötter and the doubles team of Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner. Germany's head coach Norbert Loch was satisfied with the conclusion after the Oberhof weekend: "The team relay has shown again how important it is that all components have to fit together."
