Olympic champion Felix Loch celebrates second success in the Viessmann Luge World Cup

Innsbruck-Igls (pps) Going into the new luge season Germany’s Felix Loch celebrated a great success. The Olympic and two-time World champion, handicapped in his preparations due to a hip injury, took the title in the men’s singles of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Innsbruck-Igls and thus celebrated the second World Cup victory of his career. So far, the 21-year old from Winterberg had only one win at the Viessmann Luge World in Altenberg, Germany, in the 2009-2010 season to his credit.

Just like at his Olympic victory more than nine months ago, Loch defeated team-mate and Olympic runner-up David Moeller (0,046 seconds behind), who set up a new track record (50,185 sec.) in his second run, as well as Italy’s two-time Olympic champion Armin Zoeggeler (0,162 seconds behind).

The quotes:

Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic champion; 2008 and 2009 World champion)

“As a consequence of my injury I’m still waisting the one or other hundreth of a second at the start. One cannot force an overall World Cup victory but I’ve enough time to make a go at it. However, it would be nice to win some more World Cup events.”

David Moeller (GER / 2010 Olympic champion; 2004 and 2007 World champion) “A new track record in the second run – well, that’s not too bad. The set-up of my new sled seems to be fine. And I’m better prepared mentally than last season.”

Armin Zoeggeler (ITA / 2002 and 2006 Olympic champion; 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 World champion)

“Considering my preparation for the new season I can live with the third place. The second run wasn’t as perfect as the first. But when you want to defeat Loch and Moeller, you need to have two perfect runs.”
