Albert Demchenko second ahead of Dominik Fischnaller

Königssee (pps) David Möller of Germany is back at the top of the podium four years after his victory in the Viessmann World Cup in Whistler, Canada. The 2010 Olympic silver medallist's win on the Königssee artificial ice track in the fifth round of the Viessmann Word Cup came as a great surprise, and was his ninth victory overall in the singles: a great early present for the two-times World Champion, who celebrates his 31st birthday on 13 January. Möller, who also won his fourth German Championships title on 22 December, beat Albert Demchenko of Russia and Dominik Fischnaller of Italy down to second and third. Fischnaller had previously collected silver in the 2012 Junior World Championships in Königssee.

Felix Loch of Germany, who had to make do with a fourth this time round, heads the overall rankings with 415 points. Andi Langenhan of Germany, who came sixth in Königssee, is second with 350 points and Möller is third with 343 points.

The sixth round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next weekend, 12/13 January 2013, on the artificial track in Oberhof. The races in Thuringia will also count as the 44th European Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL).

Quotes

David Möller (GER, 2012 Olympic silver medallist and two-times World Champion)

"13 Is my lucky number, my birthday is on the 13th, and we're now in the year 2013. And I wouldn't mind standing at the top of the podium again next weekend, which just happens to be my birthday. I've adapted really well to the conditions."

Albert Demchenko (RUS, 2006 Olympic silver medallist and 2012 World Championship runner-up)

"I have a long tradition of good results on this track. I was determined to keep that up."

Dominik Fischnaller (ITA, 2012 Junior World Championship runner-up)

"I'd already seen that things were going well during training. Making my first podium appearance is a dream. I would like to dedicate this finish to my Dad, who died twelve years ago."
