Sigulda (pps) Russia’s Defending Champion Albert Demtschenko has won the season’s opener at the Viessmann Luge World in Sigulda (Latvia). Celebrating his 6th victory of his career he finished in 50,683 seconds. Tony Benshoof (USA) captured second place in 50,759 seconds followed by Latvia’s Martins Rubenis (50,877). Due to bad weather conditions die jury cancelled the first run. The competition was finished after just one run. Stimmen Albert Demtschenko (RUS / Overall World Cup Champion 2004/2005) „I’m very satisfied. And I was very happy, when die jury cancelled the first run. If I loose in one run more than one second, the conditions are not fair.” Tony Benshoof (6th place overall World Cup 2004/2005) „I’m very happy; this was really a good start in the season. All athletes had difficult weather conditions, but I’m glad, that the jury cancelled the first run. “ Martins Rubenis (LAT / WM-Zweite 2001 und WM-Dritte 2004) „There have been really difficult conditions. It seems to be something like a lottery. It was the right decision to cancel the first run.”
