Degenhardt/Rosenthal with first World Cup victory of the season

Degenhardt / Rosenthal, Winterberg 2023

Winterberg (FIL/11.02.2023) With the fastest times in both runs the World Champions Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal took their first World Cup victory of this season in the VELTINS EisArena Winterberg. Narrowly beaten last week in Altenberg, they raced to victory on Cheyenne Rosenthal's home track with two concentrated runs ahead of Selina Egle and Lara Kipp (AUT) and Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer (ITA).

After the women’s doubles World Championship premiere at the FIL Junior World Championships last year, where Degenhardt/Rosenthal also triumphed, it was the first World Cup appearance for the women's doubles at the VELTINS EisArena in Winterberg under cloudy skies and temperatures of plus two degrees. As in all races of the season, the women made it thrilling again: With a start and track record of 44.108 seconds in the first run, the World Champions took the lead, only nine hundredths behind Vötter/Oberhofer, the leaders in the overall World Cup. It was the same constellation as last time in Altenberg, but this time the Germans left nothing to chance. In an overall time of 1:28.288 Degenhardt/Rosenthal won ahead of runners-up Egle/Kipp (AUT, +0.220 sec.) and World Cup bronze medallists Vötter/Oberhofer (+0.246 sec.).

Latvia's Anda Upite and Sanija Ozolina (+0.537 sec.) finished fourth as in the previous week, closely followed by the young Italians Nadia Falkensteiner and Annalena Huber (+0.683 sec.) and the US Americans Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby (+0.807 sec.) as well as Maya Chan and Reanny Weiler (+1.404 sec.) on places six and seven.

It is the fifth World Cup victory in total for Dresden's Jessica Degenhardt and her Winterberg based partner Cheyenne Rosenthal, but only the first victory this season. In nine sprint and World Cup races they were just once not on the podium and took three second and four third places so far.

Quotes:

Egle / Kipp, Winterberg 2023

Jessica Degenhardt (GER): “The first run was very nice from the start and overall. The second one was even more with traction from top to bottom and it finally felt really good. We hit the start corner well both times and can be very satisfied.”

Selina Egle (AUT): “We are happy about the second place, but we have to admit that the start is still our problem. We have to work on that. In the second run, it went better at the top, and we also raced better overall and were able to move up one more place. Things are also looking good for the sprint tomorrow. We hope to grab the small crystal globe tomorrow!”
