“This is a dream come true”
Sochi (pps) It is a dream come true for Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Organizing Committee for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and he refers to the official opening of the future Olympic track at the “Sliding Center Sanki” by the International Training Week of the International Luge Federation (FIL).
“For us a dream has come true,” Chernyshenko said in an interview with “Around the Rings”. Chernyshenko added: “The International Training Week is the first ever international competition on this track – and with the international top athletes. This is a chance for us to judge whether our track is safe enough, whether the infrastructure is comfortable enough and whether the design is really state-of-the-art.”
„It is one thing to a build a venue, but a totally different one to make it an operational Olympic track,“ explained Cheryshenko. “This is a great challenge, especially for the organizers. We all need to work closely together,” the President of the Organizing Committee said.
“I’m rather satisfied with what I saw so far of the International Training Week. But now we need to listen to the international federations FIL and FIBT (bobsleigh and skeleton),” Chernyshenko explained. He added: “We have the homologation by the FIBT, now it’s the turn for luge. When we then have the final homologation we will have an internationally certified track in my native city that is ready to welcome international competitions.”
