The countdown for the big season finale at the FIL World Cup in natural track luge is on. On the 955 meter long "Grantau"-track in Umhausen (AUT) is scheduled a double world cup from February 16th to 19th, where the overall winners in all three classes were crowned.

Umhausen Finale 2023

The finishline on the "Grantau"-track

Umhausen (FIL/02/15/2023) The World Cup finale in Umhausen will be a big farewell party for World Champion Alex Gruber (ITA) and for local hero Thomas Kammerlander (AUT). Together, the two have won all world titles in men's singles since 2017 and five of the six overall classifications. On Saturday and Sunday they will fight for the last big win of their career on the home track of "Kammi". Before the last two races, Gruber leads the World Cup standings with 415 points, followed by Kammerlander (395 points) 20 points behind. With a maximum of 200 points still up for grabs, all calculations are out of place, because with 385 points, Vice-World Champion Michael Scheikl (AUT) is sitting in the necks of the two future luge retirees. More tension is not possible.

The finale in the women's singles looks like a clear affair. World Champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) clearly leads with 500 points ahead of her two pursuers Tina Unterberger (AUT/360) and Greta Pinggera (ITA/356). With fourth place, Lanthaler can no longer take her seventh overall victory.

In the doubles, the World Champions Patrick Lambacher/Matthias Lambacher (ITA) are relatively clearly ahead of the defending champions Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA/440) after four victories this season with 485 points. If Pigneter/Clara win both races, a second and a third place would be enough for Lambacher/Lambacher to win the overall standings for the first time, while Pigneter/Clara already have 13 crystal globes in their living room.

The races in Umhausen (AUT) will be broadcast live on the homepage of the International Luge Federation FIL at www.fil-luge.org.
