Berchtesgaden (pps) At the recent meeting of the Medical Commission of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Dr. Jörg Ellermeyer was confirmed in his function as their chairperson. Dr. Zane Kruze from Latvia was re-elected as deputy. Further members of the Medical Commission are Dr. Max Regele (ITA), Dr. Eugene Byrne (USA) as well as Dr. Karl Schranz from Austria. Topics of the meeting in Berchtesgaden reviewed were the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver, accident prevention, the improvement of track safety, and topics concerning the anti-doping-campaign. The Medical Commission is a body appointed by the FIL Executive Board with the aim to advise, support and control the sport of luge, represented by the FIL, regarding any medical matters. The Medical Commission of the FIL works closely together with the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the WADA. WADA is an international organisation which sets measures against doping in competitive sports worldwide.
