Sochi (pps) The men’singles in the Olympic luge event seems to be
marked by a duel on eye level. Ahead of the two decisive runs at the
Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the top favorite Felix Loch of Germany
is on top of the rankings ahead of local hero Albert Demchenko.
Taking the lead with only a narrow winning margin in the first run, the
42-year-old Russian luger then lost almost three tenths of a second
in the second run to four-time World Champion Loch. Four years ago in
Vancouver, Canada, the German won the Olympic gold medal while
Demchenko claimed a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin,
Italy.
At “half-time”, two-time Olympic Champion Armin Zoeggeler of Italy
holds third position. However, the gap of the record Champion to first
place is quite big. Former European Champion Andi Langenhan of Germany
is on fourth position after two runs.
Quotes
Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic and four-time World Champion)
“Well, there were quite some details in the first run that weren’t
really ideal. The second run was far better. However it needs to be
said that Albert Demchenko made quite a big mistake in his second run.”
