First event in Calgary – final in Cesana / Olympic Games the highlight

Zwickau (pps) The schedule of the upcoming 2009-2010 pre-Olympic season of the International Luge Federation, FIL, boasts a total of eight Viessmann Luge World Cup events. The season’s highlight are undisputedly the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, to take place on February 12-28, 2010 with the decisions in the men’s singles (February 13-14), the women’s singles (February 15-16) and in the double-seater (February 17). Host of the 42nd European Championships will be the city of Sigulda in Latvia (January 22-24, 2010). This is what the FIL Executive Committee decided during their spring session in Zwickau, Germany.

The season opener of the Viessmann Luge World Cup will be carried out in Calgary, Canada, on November 20-21, 2009, the final of the World Cup series will take place in Cesana, Italy (January 30-31, 2010). The other Viessmann Luge World Cup events are scheduled as follows: Igls, Austria (November 28-29, 2009), Altenberg, Germany (December 5-6, 2009), Lillehammer, Norway (December 12-13, 2009), as well as in Koenigssee (January 2-3, 2010), Winterberg (January 9-10, 2010) and Oberhof (January 16-17, 2010), all in Germany.

Additionally, five team relays will be carried out in Igls, Altenberg, Koenigssee, Winterberg and Oberhof as well as three Challenge Cup events in Calgary, Lillehammer and Cesana. Based on a proposal of the FIL Sports Commission, two sprint competitions will be carried out as test events in Altenberg and Oberhof.
