Elena Sorina Ticu, President of the Romanian Bobsleigh and Luge Federation, earns doctorate in sports science

Bucharest (FIL/31 Aug 2025) Elena Sorina Ticu, President of the Romanian Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Federation, Olympian at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer (Norway) and member of the Executive Board of the International Luge Federation (FIL), has successfully obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science in Sports and Physical Education.

The title was awarded to her this year by the National University of Science POLITEHNICA Bucharest, after completing her doctoral research at the Doctoral School in Pitești, Argeș County.

Her dissertation, entitled “Strategies for improving athletic performance in luge disciplines,” was developed in close national and international scientific collaboration and builds on more than 25 years of experience in winter sports – from active Olympic participation to working as a sports official and association president.

“Earning the title of Doctor of Science in Sports and Physical Education is an important step in my life,” said Elena Sorina Ticu. “I see this title as a logical continuation of my athletic career. With scientifically sound planning and strategy, all people can achieve great results.”

Throughout her career, Ticu has combined athletic excellence with academic and administrative commitment. After competing as an Olympic luger at the 1994 Winter Games in Nagano, she remained loyal to winter sports in leading positions. Today, she is president of the Romanian Bobsleigh and Luge Federation, representative of winter sports in the Romanian Olympic Sports Committee (NOC ROU) and member of the Executive Board of the International Luge Federation FIL.

She gained international experience through her participation in the IOC's WISH program – Olympic Solidarity, which strengthens sports leadership skills worldwide.

“I will continue to live and promote Olympic values,” Ticu emphasized. “As a woman in high-performance sport, as a member of the FIL Executive Board, and as an expert in luge, I want to support unity based on common goals and further promote the importance of winter sports.”

This milestone underscores Elena Sorina Ticu's commitment to combining scientific knowledge, leadership, and Olympic values to further develop the future of luge and winter sports, both in Romania and internationally.
