Eliza Tiruma and Sascha Benecken role models for Gangwon 2024 athletes

Salzburg (FIL/02 Oct 2023) Twelve Olympic athletes have been selected to play an important role in the run-up to the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). These Athlete Role Models, or ARMs, were chosen by the international federations whose sports will be represented at Gangwon 2024.

Twelve athletes have been unveiled so far, with more to be named in the run-up to the Games. For the International Luge Federation (FIL), Olympic medalists Eliza Tiruma (Latvia) and Sascha Benecken (Germany) will serve as role models.

Those selected will support the young athletes who have made it to Gangwon 2024 in various capacities.

The International Olympic Committee is pleased to announce that world-class athletes will serve as ARMs at the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

These athletes will play an important role in mentoring and shaping the future of young, aspiring athletes through the ARM program.

The ARM program has been an integral part of the YOG since the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 and will continue to play an important role at the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon in 2024, which begins on January 19.

The ARMs will be on the ground in South Korea to talk to, encourage, mentor and support all of the brilliant young athletes who have made it to Gangwon 2024.

All of the ARMs will share their experiences with the athletes in the Youth Olympic Village, at training and competition venues, and in a series of educational activities and workshops to help introduce them to the sport.
