Emily Sweeney, Armin Frauscher and Geueke/Gamm claim victory in Nation’s Cup

Whistler (RWH) Emily Sweeney USA), Austria’s Armin Frauscher and the duo Robin Geueke-David Gamm from Germany have won their opening races in the Viessmann Luge World Cup at Whistler, Canada. In the Nation’s Cup, the qualifying races for the events on Friday and Saturday, Emily Sweeney pushed Jessica Tiebel (GER) and Austria’s Madeleine Egle into second and third place. Sweeny celebrated a successful comeback nine month after her crash at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR) in February. Junior World Champion Tiebel is an additional starter of the German team and therefore not qualified for the race on Saturday (December 1, 2018).
In the men’s event, Armin Frauscher - who became Silber Medallist in the Under 23 event at the 2017 World Championships in Igls (AUT) – finished in first ahead of his team-mate Reinhard Egger and Russia’s Aleksandr Gorbatcevich. Geueke/Gamm, 2017 Bronze Medallists the World Championships, secured the top spot ahead of Russia’s Vsevolod Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov and Chris Mazdzer/Jayson Terdiman from the USA.
