Emotional home victory of Dajana Eitberger

Oberhof (FIL): It took four races in the women's EBERSPÄCHER World Cup for Dajana Eitberger win her first race in Oberhof after her baby break. Next to her, her colleague Natalie Geisenberger was smiling. 0.072 seconds separated the two mothers. "I really wanted Dajana to win," said Geisenberger, "I hoped she would pull it off and get the home victory."
Eitberger had quite an emotional reaction to her seventh World Cup win. "When I saw the 1 at the finish line, I was just overwhelmed," said the 29-year-old luge athlete from Germany, "there were tears running."

The conditions at the rebuilt ice track were not easy, as fog had settled over the Thuringian Forest. This made the track slower for the last runners, which ensured visibility was more difficult. "At some point the visor fogged up," Geisenberger described the situation. But immediately added: "Even if I had seen more, I would not have won."

Kendija Aparjode from Latvia. After the first run the 23-year-old was leading, in the end she ended up in third place. "That was an insane race, my first podium," she said overjoyed, and admitted that "Oberhof is one of my favourite tracks next to Sigulda. It is wonderful that I could win my first medal here."

Seven thousandths of a second slower than Apatjode was Madeleine Egle. The Austrian was a little annoyed about the close outcome: "The podium would have been in it." As a consolation she was left with two records: at the start she was stopped with 6.812 seconds, in the second run she was fastest in 41.602 seconds.

For Geisenberger, it was second place for the fourth time in the fourth race this season. With this she extended her lead in the overall World Cup ahead of defending champion Julia Taubitz, who only finished tenth.
