Erin Hamlin made her final farewell to the track in Lake Placid

Lake Placid (RWH) Like Alex Gough in Calgary last weekend, Erin Hamlin has made a final farewell slide on her home track in lake Placid. The bronze medallist from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi opened the Viessmann World Cup race in doubles as the forerunner, marking the official end to her career.

Hamlin was not only the USA’s first ever female athlete to win a medal in the luge, but 2009 also saw the 32-year-old become America’s first ever female luge World Champion in Lake Placid. As well as competing in four Olympic Games, she also won gold in the Sprint World Championships in Innsbruck-Igls in 2017, as well as two silvers in the women’s event and team relay. After finishing sixth at the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Erin Hamlin brought an end to her career, which included four singles’ victories in the Viessmann World Cup and two World Cup golds with the US relay team.
