Ethics Officer Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler dies in accident

Burghausen (FIL/18 July 2023) It was with great regret that the FIL family received the sad news that FIL Ethics Officer Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler died in a hiking accident at the end of last week.

The well-known sports lawyer completed his law studies in Bonn and Munich in 1970 and received his doctorate (Dr. jur.) in 1975 with a thesis on "Liability in Sports Accidents". He was a member of the Deutsche Vereinigung für Sportrecht e. V. (German Association for Sports Law), the Konstanzer Arbeitskreis für Deutsches und Internationales Sportrecht (Konstanz Working Group for German and International Sports Law), president of the ISLA - International Sport Lawyers Association from 2003 to 2020 and mediator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

"We mourn the loss of Dr. Jochen Fritzweiler, who served as FIL Ethics Officer since the 2022 Congress, and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. In the short time Jochen Fritzweiler has been with us, we have come to appreciate his extensive expertise and we will also greatly miss his sociability and humor," said FIL President Einars Fogelis.
