Koenigssee (pps) At the second stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup series on the artificially refrigerated track in Koenigssee, European champion Andi Langenhan of Germany claimed his sixth individual victory, thus spoiling the plans of World champion Felix Loch (GER) to take the top spot of the podium on his home track. In the first run Langenhan improved Loch’s newly set up track record (49.356 seconds) to 49.252 seconds. In heavy snowfall Langenhan eventually earned the victory with a winning margin of 0.041 seconds.
Already last season Langenhan – who collected three World Cup wins – proved to be Loch’s greatest adversary. Loch earned six of the nine World Cup events. Former World champion David Moeller of Germany finished in third position. “Old hands” Albert Demchenko of Russia (41 years old) and 38-year old Armin Zoeggeler of Italy claimed the fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Quotes
Andi Langenhan (GER / 2012 European champion)
“I’m pleased as punch. It’s really something very special, having defeated Felix on his home track. Every time I compete I want to win – this is why today’s victory is not really meant as a challenge for Felix.”
Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic and three-time World champion) “I’ve made one or two mistakes in the first run. The second run was better. Well, in the end it was a really close call. But next week in Altenberg, the outcome might be totally different again.”
David Moeller (GER / two-time World champion)
“I’ve shown a really good performance. One or two mistakes are always possible on a track such as the one here in Koenigssee. I’m really happy.”
