Innsbruck (pps) The countdown for the 2007 World Luge Championships in Innsbruck-Igls, Austria (January 28-February 4) began in mid-December 2005 by founding the Organising Committee. This was announced by the Organising Committee “Tiroler Rodel-Arge“ on December 8. The team now has 418 days to offer the athletes from all over the world perfect conditions for the World Championships.
“We want to make the days at Igls unforgettable for the international luge family. The alterations and renovations at the buildings along the Igls track finished by then, will offer the athletes and coaches as well as the media representatives standards they have not yet encountered“, said the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Innsbruck’s deputy mayor Dr. Michael Bielowski.
The organisers want to set up an extensive event programme besides the sporting competitions that is aiming particularly at juveniles to make them watch and take part. They are proud that by engaging the agency of former ski star Harti Weirather completely new ideas will be introduced in luge. The 1976 Olympic track at Igls will host World Championships for the fourth time in 2007. The Austrians previously staged the 1977, 1987 and 1997 Luge World Championships.
