Extra duties for Austria’s head coach René Friedl

Innsbruck (RWH) The head coach of the Austrian Luge Federation (ÖRV) René Friedl has been given an enhanced role. Thuringian native Friedl has been assigned the duties of the former sporting director Markus Prock, who has been elected president.
René Friedl, who won the European Championship title in 1992, has been working for the Austrian federation since the 2005/2006 season. He led the doubles pairing of Andreas and Wolfgang Linger to two Olympic victories (2006 and 2010) and a silver medal (2014). In 2010, Nina Reithmayer also won silver in the women’s event. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang (KOR), Austria’s lugers clinched one gold, silver and bronze through David Gleirscher, the doubles duo of Peter Penz/Georg Fischler and the team relay, making it their most successful Games since Albertville (FRA) in 1992. Back then, the ÖRV won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
