Family ties: Nico Gleirscher stands on the podium with brother David

Gleirscher Brüder

Koenigssee (FIL) Still on the eve before the Sprint World Championships in Koenigssee, Nico and Olympic champion David Gleirscher had talked about the fact that they had never been on the podium together. And then the Austrians immediately put this wish into practice. Nico Gleirscher won gold, his older brother David took bronze. In between, Semen Pavlichenko (Russian Luge Federation) had still pushed himself. "We only missed the brothers' double victory by one thousandth," cheered the 23-year-old winner, "that's sensational." Neither of them had managed flawless runs. But they could rely on their sleds.
Fourth place went to overall World Cup winner Felix Loch. The 31-year-old German made a few mistakes right after the start. "It started small, but then became huge and had a huge impact in S1 and S2," he explained his run and the consequences: "Then the momentum is gone." Eighth place went to Sprint World Cup winner Kevin Fischnaller (Italy).
