Königssee (RWH)  A fast-paced and atmospheric opening ceremony marked the start of the 46th International Luge Federation (FIL) World Championships on the artificial ice track in Königssee.

Following a parade of athletes from the 24 competing nations in Weihnachtsschützenplatz in the centre of Berchtesgaden, the crowds of spectators were treated to a series of energetic performances. The Bayern 1-Band gave a rendition of the World Championship anthem before FIL President Josef Fendt declared the event officially open. These World Championships are the sixth to be staged on the oldest artificial ice track in the world since since 1969. The impressive opening ceremony concluded with a spectacular fireworks display.
