The eagerly awaited championships in luge on natural track are getting closer. The first event will be the 36th FIL Luge Junior European Championships on natural track in Jaufental (ITA) on February 1st, the highlight will be the 23rd FIL Luge World Championships on natural track from February 4th to 7th in Umhausen (AUT).

The “Tonnerboden”-track in Jaufental, only a few kilometers from the motorway exit in Sterzing, is in excellent condition and has been used intensively by the national teams for training purposes over the past few days and weeks. One thing is certain: there will be new European Champions in all three categories in 2021. The defending champion in women‘s single, Daniela Mittermair (ITA), is now a successfully competing in the FIL World Cup, as is the defending champion in the men’s singles, Fabian Achenrainer (AUT). In 2019 in Umhausen (AUT), Achenrainer and his partner Miguel Brugger won the gold medal in the doubles.

The start of "Tonnerboden"-track in Jaufental

The preliminary program for the 36th FIL Luge Junior European Championships in Jaufental is the final of the Junior World Cup on January 30th and 31st.

Just a few days after the FIL Luge European Junior Championships on natural track, the 23rd FIL Luge World Championships on natural track are on the program in Umhausen (AUT). The defending champions all come from Italy: Evelin Lanthaler (women‘s single), Alex Gruber (men‘s single), Patrick Pigneter/ Florian Clara (doubles) and the hosts also won the gold medal in the team competition in 2019 in Latzfons (ITA).

The FIL Luge World Championships on the “Grantau”-track begin with a training day, the 2021 World Champions will be crowned as usual in three races from Friday on. In contrast to the World Cup, the title fights in Umhausen are scheduled during the day, and not under floodlights in the evening.
