Armin Zoeggeler takes second place ahead of Johannes Ludwig

Koenigssee (pps) Germany’s lugers still know who to win on their home-track in Koenigssee: More than ten years after the success of three-time Olympic Champion Georg Hackl in December 2001, who was the last German luger to celebrate a victory there, Felix Loch ended this “draught”. Cheered on by the crowds on the stands the Olympic and two-time World Champion won the Viessmann Luge World Cup with a winning margin of 0.217 seconds over Italian Armin Zoeggeler and Johannes Ludwig (0.491 seconds behind), who was on sixth place after the first run. It is already the third victory this season for local hero Felix Loch.

Norway’s Jo Alexander Koppang pulled off a surprise – he recorded a career best result by finishing sixth. With his fifth place, David Mair of Italy celebrated his career best result as well.

Loch is heading the Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings with 385 points to his credit. After his fourth place in Koenigssee, David Moeller is on second place, already 100 points behind Loch. Ludwig (265 points) is on third position ahead of Zoeggler (245).

Quotes Felix Loch

(GER / 2010 Olympic and two-time World Champion)

“Of course an Olympic gold medal and two World Championship titles are in a different league - that much is true. But I will always cherish this World Cup success. It is something very special to win on my home-track in front of all those fans.”

Armin Zoeggeler

(ITA / two-time Olympic and six-time World Champion)

“This is an important success for me personally. Felix is simply on a great run right now. In my second run I risked everything and tried to go on the attack. Fortunately it paid off.”

Johannes Ludwig

(GER / 2010 European sixth-placed)

“To be honest, after my first run I secretly hoped for such a result. After all I was not that far away from a spot on the podium. I’m very pleased.”
