Winterberg (RWH) Felix Loch of Germany has once again demonstrated his superiority on the luge, taking his fifth victory in the Viessmann World Cup this post-Olympic winter. The Olympic Champion and four-times World Champion’s win on the artificial track in Winterberg is his 23rd victory in a World Cup and extends his lead in the overall standings to 230 points after eight of twelve races. The 25-year-old had only once before taken top place on the podium on the track in Winterberg, in the winter of 2011/2012. Second place in Germany’s Hochsauerland region went to surprise candidate Stepan Fedorov of Russia, whose best results to date were two fourth places. US luger Tucker West, who won the Viessmann World Cup in Lake Placid and silver in the Junior World Championships in Lillehammer (NOR) last week, was third. Loch now has 663 points in the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings. He continues to be trailed by Andi Langenhan of Germany (433 points), who made a mess of the second run and came in down the field at 16th, and Chris Mazdzer of the USA (429), who was tenth in Winterberg. The seventh round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next weekend (31 January to 1 February 2015) in Lillehammer, Norway. Quotes Felix Loch (GER / 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion, four-times World Champion) “I’m on a roll with three victories in succession. And that’s although I almost crashed in the second run. I had to do some acrobatics to stay on the sled. My form is looking good for the World Championships.” Stepan Fedorow (RUS / Fourth in FIL Sprint World Cup in Igls and Viessmann World Cup in Königssee) “I’m really, really happy. The distance to the top lugers is getting smaller all the time.” Tucker West (USA / 2015 Junior World Championship silver medallist) “To come third is a real success after my terrible performance in training. I really didn’t expect this.”
