Oberhof (RWH) Felix Loch remains a force to be reckoned with in Oberhof. The German Olympic Champion has celebrated his fifth victory in succession on the Oberhof track at the Viessmann Luge World Cup, making him unbeaten in the Thuringian Forest since the winter of 2010/2011. Despite an error during the first run, the 25-year-old set new track records in both heats (43.505 and 43.323 seconds), and took his 22nd Viessmann World Cup victory and fourth win of the season with a lead of 0.211 seconds. Former European Champion Andi Langenhan followed his teammate and four-times World Champion, who collected his first ever world championship gold medal in Oberhof in 2008, into second. US luger Chris Mazdzer came third in a repeat of his performance on the artificial track in Königssee ten days ago. After seven of twelve races in the Viessmann World Cup, Felix Loch now heads the overall rankings with 563 points. Andi Langenhan and Chris Mazdzer are in second and third with 408 and 393 points respectively. The next round in the Viessmann World Cup will take place in Winterberg in Germany’s Sauerland region on 24–25 January 2015. Quotes Felix Loch (GER / 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion, four-times World Champion) “The first run was no good. But the second run was so much the better. It was a perfect day. My result makes me feel optimistic about the World Championships in Sigulda next month.” Andi Langenhan (GER / 2013 World Championship silver medallist, 2011 World Championship bronze medallist and 2012 European Champion) “I see my result with mixed feelings. It was great to make the podium, even if I did want to tackle Felix Loch here in Oberhof because it’s here that he’s vulnerable.” Chris Mazdzer (USA / Fifth in 2013/2014 Viessmann World Cup rankings) “So I can do it on the German tracks, too, not just in Lake Placid. Looking forward to the World Championships, this means that I can probably be sure to make it into the seeding group.”
