Felix Loch triumphs quite superior on his home track in Königssee
Königssee (FIL) The surprise is limited: Felix Loch celebrated his sixth victory in the seventh race of this season at the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup at Königssee (GER). His lead was 0.285 seconds after two runs at the finish, where Russia's Roman Repilov and Johannes Ludwig (Germany/0.701 sec. back) in third place applauded him appreciatively for his 45th World Cup victory. "With the distances to Felix and Roman, I have to ask: Doesn't anyone else want to go in there in front?" asked Ludwig. And didn't know the answer. Whether everyone is as polite as Repilov. "I thought I'd let Felix win on his home track in the World Cup. That's what it does," said the reigning double world champion, "then at the World Championships he has to let me win." And laughed under his mask.
Of course, in addition to the current World Cup race, all the luge pilots were already thinking about the title fights at the end of January. "Koenigssee is the most important track this year," said the 24-year-old Repilov, "since I was fast despite two mistakes, that gives me hope." Ludwig also has special expectations for the World Championships. And, as always, he is counting on his good start. In the first run, the 34-year-old Olympic relay champion missed his record of 3.252 seconds by just one thousandth of a second. "I am always surprised that I can still set the standards at my advanced age," said Ludwig.

The World Championships dress rehearsal failed for David Gleirscher (AUT). The Olympic champion crashed in the first run after a driving mistake in the Labyrinth. His brother Nico stepped into the breach and finished fourth. "It certainly wasn't down to speed today, but there were small mistakes in both runs," he said, disappointed to have narrowly missed out on the podium.
