Innsbruck-Igls (RWH) Felix Loch has won the Viessmann World Cup in Innsbruck-Igls for the fifth time in succession. The two-times Olympic Champion, who also collected gold with the German relay team at the Sochi Winter Olympics, came in ahead of the competition in the men’s singles on the artificial track at the foot of the Patscherkofel at the start of the post-Olympic Winter. Loch, who has now won a total of 19 Viessmann World Cups, also came first in Innsbruck-Igls in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Second place went to Italy’s European Championship bronze medallist Dominik Fischnaller, and former European Champion Andi Langenhan of Germany was third. Host Austria’s athletes Wolfgang Kindl and David Gleirscher came in fourth and eighth respectively. Interestingly, Gleirscher’s father Gerhard was the last Austrian athlete to win on the Tyrolean track, and that was in December 1997. Quotes Felix Loch (GER, 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion, three-times World Champion) “It’s a good feeling, because you don’t really know where you stand compared to the international competition at the beginning of the season. And training was difficult because of the fog, which was worse than I’d ever seen before in Igls.” Dominik Fischnaller (ITA, 2014 European Championship bronze medallist, sixth at the Olympics) “Preparation was really difficult, because I could no longer compare my performance against Armin Zöggeler. I missed Armin in training after his retirement. So I’m even happier with my result.” Andi Langenhan (GER, 2013 World Championship silver medallist, 2012 World Champion bronze medallist, 2012 European Champion) “I’m just really happy because at last I've made it onto the podium again.”
