Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt still at top in pre-Olympic winter

Königssee (pps) Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt continue to set the standards in the two-seater. The European Championships runners-up from Germany have won the race on their home track in Königssee in the fifth Viessmann World Cup, their fifth win in succession. They remain unbeaten in this pre-Olympic winter 2012/2013, and are second to none in the overall rankings with the highest possible score of 500 points.

In their 15th victory in a Viessmann World Cup, the Bavarian duo came in first despite the pouring rain with a remarkable lead of 0.876 seconds on teammates and World Championship runners-up Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken. European Champions Peter Penz und Georg Fischler of Austria came in third.

Wendl/Arlt are followed in the overall rankings by Penz/Fischler in second with 370 points and Eggert/Benecken in third with 367 points.

The fifth [sixth?] round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next weekend, 12/13 January 2013, on the artificial track in Oberhof. The races in Thuringia will also count as the 44th European Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL).

Quotes

Tobias Wendl (GER, 2012 European Championship runner-up)

"I've never experienced such bad conditions on our home track. It's true that you need to be a daredevil in your discipline, but as you grow older, your brain kicks in as well."

Toni Eggert (GER, 2012 World Championship runner-up)

"That was a great result for us. But we need to carry on the hard work, because you not only need two perfect runs, you also need to be as fast as the two Tobis to beat them."

Peter Penz (AUT, 2012 European Champion)

"We're really happy with our third, but we're much too far behind. It would normally be impossible to come third 1.2 seconds back."
