FIL AI Agent “LAIA”: AI Premiere in Olympic Winter Sports

Cortina (FIL/03 Feb 2026) The International Luge Federation (FIL) is setting a major milestone in the digital evolution of the sport on the road to the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. With the FIL Luge AI Assistant “LAIA”, the world governing body of the sport of luge introduces an official, sport-specific AI Assistant for the Olympic Winter Games.
“Our AI project LAIA underlines the FIL’s commitment to sustainably strengthening innovation, transparency, and service quality for all stakeholders,” emphasizes FIL President Einars Fogelis.
The aim of the FIL AI Assistant is to create a central digital point of contact for the entire world of luge. Athletes, coaches, officials, media representatives, and fans alike will benefit during the preparation phase and throughout the Olympic Games. LAIA will bundle reliable, validated, and up-to-date information and will be available both for desktop and mobile as a web application.
The FIL AI Assistant combines comprehensive expert knowledge with data-driven analysis. At the heart of LAIA is a purpose-built luge dataset created specifically for this project: a database containing more than 42,000 race results, with records dating back to 1950 for certain race formats. This depth of data makes it possible to track historical trends, athlete careers, and track-by-track comparisons with a level of detail that has not been accessible before.
For the first time, the chatbot makes this information truly easy to explore. Fans, media, and teams can ask precise, in-depth questions, such as: Who has won how many medals—and when and where? Who has the most World Cup victories or bronze medals? How have performance trends evolved across multiple seasons?
A key focus are the Olympic Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo. LAIA provides AI-driven predictions of medal contenders, based on multi-year trends and, in particular, the current season - including the test event already held in Cortina. The chatbot is also enriched with extensive track-related data such as speeds, g-forces, and additional performance metrics, all available for anyone to explore.
LAIA offers value for athletes as well.
A detailed track guide is built into the system and can be queried directly through the chatbot—for example: Which corners are key sections? How should I approach Turns 3 and 4? What are common mistakes?
Another standout feature is an integrated interactive game with Olympic Champion Felix Loch. Users can virtually ride down the track and try to match Loch’s steering inputs as closely as possible. Beyond seeing their final score, players also get a feel for just how complex steering actions in luge really are.
The project was lead by former World Cup luger Julian von Schleinitz (PhD), Head of AI at FIL. The project partner DokuMe is responsible for design, frontend development, and integration into the FIL’s existing digital platforms.

The project creates a modern, easily accessible, and at the same time professionally sound gateway to the sport of luge, setting an innovative standard for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and beyond.
