FIL Commission Youth/Development meets in Berchtesgaden

Berchtesgaden (FIL/17 Mrz 2025) The Youth/Development Commission of the International Luge Federation, FIL, met for its annual session on March 15, 2025. The venue was the Alpenhotel Kronprinz in Berchtesgaden. The aim of the meeting was to evaluate the past season and to further develop and promote the junior sector in international luge sport.
The commission members discussed key topics for the further development of the junior sector and the promotion of young male and female athletes in the sport of luge.
The meeting began with a welcome address by the chairman of the commission, Hans-Jürgen Köhne. He provided an overview of the organization of the conference and presented the main agenda items. He emphasized the importance of sustainable support for young talents and the continuous improvement of training and competition structures.
The evaluation of the 2024/25 season then took place. The commission analyzed the sporting achievements in the junior classes and took stock of the competitions and training measures carried out. Particular attention was paid to the international Youth B races, which serve as an important entry level for young talents. The commission discussed how the race series could be further optimized and made more attractive.
A key point of the meeting was the development program for young athletes. The members discussed measures to support young talents in the singles and doubles events and considered new strategies for targeted support of promising talents. In addition, the planned marketing campaign for young athletes was presented, which aims to get more young people interested in the sport of luge. The training program for coaches also played an important role in the discussions, as well-trained coaches are considered key to successful youth development work.
Another focus was the planning of the sports calendar for the 2025/26 season. The upcoming events and international competitions were scheduled. In addition, the commission defined the deployment plan for the jury and technical delegates for the 2026 Junior World Championships in Altenberg.
The meeting of the Youth Commission is a central component of the work to develop young talent in international luge. Targeted measures are designed to increase the attractiveness of luge and to sustainably promote the transition of young athletes to competitive sports.
