Liberec (pps) Three years after the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, the artificial track in Whistler will again be the venue of a major sport event. In Liberec (CZE), the Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL) awarded the 44th FIL World Championships 2013 to the „Whistler Sliding Center“. The 2013 Junior World Championships were awarded to Park City (USA). Next year, there will be no FIL World Championships because of the Olympic Winter Games. The 42nd FIL World Championships will be held at the Olympic track in Cesana (ITA); the 43rd FIL World Championships 2012 will take place in Altenberg (GER).
At the finals of the 2008/2009 Viessmann World Cup, the demanding ice track at „Whistler Sliding Center“ had passed its first crucial test. With 6,000 spectators, both event days were completely sold out. With almost 154 kilometers per hour, World Champion Felix Loch from Germany had reached a new speed record.
