Zwickau (pps) This weekend, the Executive Board of the International Luge Federation (FIL) will meet in Zwickau (GER) for its regular spring meeting. Items on the agenda will include the preparations for the 57th FIL Congress in Liberec (CZE) on June 19/20, 2009, the 2009/2010 event schedule, the financial report as well as the preparations for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, and the 2012 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck (AUT).
Zwickau was chosen as the location for the meeting because the Summer Cup, a luge competition with a long tradition, will be staged there at the same time. On the occasion of this race, a memorial will be unveiled in remembrance of Karl Zenker, the chairman of the FIL Sport Commission, who passed away in 2007. Karl Zenker was the main initiator of the plastic luge track in Zwickau, which was inaugurated in 1979.
