FIL Executive Committee meets in Vienna

FIL Exekutive tagt in Wien 2025

Vienna (FIL/May 14, 2025) The spring meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Luge Federation (FIL) took place on May 13 and 14, 2025, at the Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier in Vienna. Under the chairmanship of President Einars Fogelis (LAT), the Executive Committee discussed a wide range of strategic and organizational issues relating to the further development of international luge sport.

The meeting focused on the President's report, preparations for the 2025 FIL Congress and the 2026 Olympic Luge Competitions, finances, and commission reports.

Fogelis provided information on the most recent Presidium meeting and current developments in the international sporting arena. Executive Director Christoph Schweiger (AUT) presented the resolution review from the last meeting on September 12–13, 2024.

The three Vice Presidents Claire DelNegro (USA, Sport Artificial Track), Armin Zöggeler (ITA, Technical Artificial Track), and Sorin Buta (ROU, Natural Track and Grassroots Sports) reported on the work of their commissions.

In addition, applications for future World and European Championships were evaluated and prepared for voting at the FIL Congress in June 2025.

FIL Exekutive in Wien 2025

Various motions from the commissions were discussed. Among other things, the 2025/2026 sports calendar for natural track was confirmed and the official assignments for upcoming title competitions were decided.

FIL Vice President for Finance Geoff Balme (NZL) presented the 2024/2025 annual financial statements and the budget proposal for the new fiscal year.

Preparations for the 73rd FIL Congress in Tampere (FIN) were discussed. Organizational and content planning, including motions to amend the statutes, were discussed.

The FIL Executive Committee focused on the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina. Strategic measures and coordination were discussed between President Einars Fogelis, Secretary General Dwight Bell (USA) and the responsible Vice Presidents.

The date for the next Executive Committee meeting in September 2025 has been set.

The results of the meeting will serve as an important basis for the upcoming decisions at the FIL Congress and the further strategic direction of international luge.
