FIL mourns the death of Sergey Danilin

Moscow (FIL) The Soviet and Russian silver medalist of the 1984 Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo, Sergey Danilin passed away on 4 October 2021.
The former luger, now 61 years old, competed in five Winter Olympics, the first in 1980 in Lake Placid (USA), and won five World Championship medals. In 1981 Danilin became World Champion and in 1986 European Champion in Men’s Singles in Hammarstrand (SWE).

Sergey Danilin won a complete set of medals in Singles at FIL Luge World Championships: gold in 1981, silver in 1983 and bronze in 1987. He also won two bronze medals with the Soviet mixed team (1989 and 1990). His best result in the men's overall Luge World Cup was second place twice (1981 and 1982).
In 1986, the successful luger married his younger teammate Junior World Champion Nadejda Danilina, formerly Schmitova.
