From October 20 to 21, 2004, FIL President Josef Fendt and Secretary General Svein Romstad stayed in Vancouver in order to discuss the preparations for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. They met with Senior Vice-President for Sport Cathy Priestner-Allinger, Director of Sport Tim Gayda and the Manager of Planning for Whistler Jan Jensen; all of them had assessed this early meeting with high-ranking representatives of an International Winter Sport Federation as very useful. The representatives of the Organizing Committee expressed in a convincing way that there was nothing left to stop the construction of the artificially iced combined luge and bobsleigh track in Whistler. The detailed plans for the construction of the track had already been approved by FIL and FIBT experts.
The area in Whistler on which the track is to be constructed was visited by the FIL representatives. President Josef Fendt and Secretary General Svein Romstad were excited to see that already now a luge sled and a bobsleigh are exhibited in front of an information booth in Whistler City.
The FIL`s desire to have luge competitions on natural track as well as the team competition artificial track included in the program of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games was put forward in detail and the corresponding documents were handed over.
