FIL mourns long-time President of the Polish Federation Jan Błoński

Warsaw (FIL) The International Luge Federation, FIL, mourns the death of Jan Błoński, the long-time President and most recently Interim President of the Polish Luge Federation (PZSSan). The holder of the FIL Medal of Honour in Silver died of covid-19 in Warsaw on 15 December 2020 at the age of 71.
From 1988 to 26 June 2010, Jan Błoński was President of the Polish Sled Sports Federation. Thanks to his great commitment, the construction of an artificially iced track on Góra Parkowa in Krynica-Zdrój began in 2008. Following the death of PZSSan President Michał Jasnosz on 29 September 2019, Jan Błoński was again temporarily entrusted with the duties of PZSSan President. He held this position as interim president until 12 September 2020.
For many years, Błoński was a member of the Board and Presidium of the Polish Olympic Committee. He enjoyed the great trust of sportsmen.
For almost three decades, the sports official, who was also an athlete in the past, led Polish sledging. He knew the needs of athletes* and coaches* and enjoyed respect and recognition in the international FIL family.
Błoński had a predisposition to seek positive solutions, according to the Polish Sled Sports Federation (PZSSan): "Often smiling, he enjoyed trust and inspired respect. Luge was his dream, thanks to his efforts Polish children, youth, juniors and seniors also found a place to luge in Krynica-Zdrój."
The unexpected, terrible illness did not allow him to realise all his dreams anymore.
