FIL President Einars Fogelis meets IOC President Thomas Bach in Lausanne

Lausanne (FIL/08 March 2024) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Einars Fogelis, met the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, in Lausanne on Thursday, March 7, 2024. During the meeting, several important issues concerning the sport of luge and the upcoming Olympic Winter Games were discussed.
The main topics of discussion were the course of the 2023/2024 luge season and the successful end-of-season gala held last Sunday in Sigulda, Latvia. President Fogelis emphasized the importance of this event as the highlight of the luge calendar and praised the outstanding achievements of the athletes and organizers.
Another focus of the meeting was the participation of luge athletes in the Youth Olympic Winter Games and the development of youth work in luge. The possibilities and opportunities for new nations to join winter sports and participate in luge were also discussed.
The preparations for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina were also on the agenda. IOC President Bach and FIL President Fogelis exchanged views on the progress of the preparations and discussed the importance of standardized material procurement as well as further possibilities to promote and develop the sport of luge worldwide.
"We had a very constructive meeting and feel the strong shoulder of the IOC on our side, which is very important for us," emphasized Fogelis.
