Fendt - berlin

Berlin (RWH) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt from Berchtesgaden, was a guest at the “Stars of Sport” award ceremony, the major award for sports clubs in Germany. At the official presentation attended by more than 400 guests in the DZ BANK building in Berlin, Fendt met with Klaus Schormann, President of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Fendt and Schormann, together with Thomas Weikert from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) the only Germans in charge of an Olympic federation, were invited by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The DOSB has staged the “Stars of Sport” competition annually since 2004 in conjunction with the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken cooperative banks. The “Oscar for Grassroots Sport” honours sports clubs that engage in socially relevant areas beyond traditional sports, on a mostly voluntary basis. This year’s first prize of €10,000 went to the Turnverein 1848 Erlangen sports club. It was rewarded for its initiative involving rollator sport including transport for elderly people.
