The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt, visited the PEWO World Cup on natural track held in Umhausen (AUT) on January 16/17, 2009, and took the opportunity to call in a meeting with all the athletes. The meeting was attended by athletes from 13 nations. Fendt talked about the internal structure of the FIL as well as the different functions of FIL officials. After that he answered questions asked by athletes.
The always burning question was about the progress of natural track luge becoming a part of the Olympic program. President Fendt said that the next application will be for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, which will be awarded in 2011. Until then all the tasks requested by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should be implemented.
The 2012 Olympic Youth Games have been awarded to Innsbruck. In a mutual effort made by FIL, the Austrian Luge Federation, the luge federation of the Austrian federal state of Tyrol, and the organizers of the 2012 Olympic Youth Games, it could be possible to already include natural track luge there.
Another question was raised about safety measures at race tracks. Herbert Wurzer and Josef Ploner, chairmen of the Sports- respectively the Technical Commission, said that the very best will be done to provide maximum safety.
Eventually President Fendt announced that as of now prize money will also be rewarded for World Championships.
