FIL President Fendt receives Badge of Honour from DOSB

Magdeburg (RWH) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Berchtesgaden’s Josef Fendt, is the latest recipient of the Badge
of Honour awarded by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The 69-year-old received the award at the annual DOSB conference in Magdeburg.
The DOSB presents the award in recognition of individuals or associations in organised sport who have been outstanding in their promotion and development of sport, either inside or outside of the DOSB. It was awarded for the first time in 2009. Previous recipients include Rosi Mittermaier, double Olympic Champion at the Innsbruck Games in 1976, and Klaus Schormann, President of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM).
Fendt, himself an Olympic silver medallist in 1976 and a two-time World Champion, has been at the helm of the FIL world federation since 1994. During his tenure, the FIL has evolved into a modern and innovative umbrella organisation with more than 50 member associations. Fendt worked tirelessly to have the team relay included in the Winter Olympics, and the crowd-pleasing event made its much-lauded debut in Sochi, Russia, in 2014. The FIL also supports smaller nations by means of a sophisticated funding system and a well-structured free pass scheme.
