Bozen (RWH) The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt from Germany, has been visiting the luge coordinator for the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) Karl Damian, in Bolzano, Italy. Damian is currently recovering from the aftermath of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder involving damage to the peripheral nervous system. “I can now walk without crutches and am on my way to recovery – very positive news”, said Karl Damian in an interview with the South Tyrolean news portal SportNews. The meeting was also attended by South Tyrol’s Armin Zöggeler, two-times Olympic Champion and record-breaking World Champion, and FIL Executive Director Christoph Schweiger. “We are very happy to see that Karl is doing much better, and that he’s already fighting with feeling and passion for the affairs of the sport of luge,” stated Fendt and Schweiger after their visit.
