FIL President meets Beijing 2022 Vice President and officials

Yanqing (FIL) FIL President Einars Fogelis and FIL General Secretary Dwight Bell met with Yang Shu’an, Vice President of the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee (BOCOG), with Zhang Suzhi, Executive Director of Yanqing Venue Cluster, with Tong Lixin, Director General of BOCOG Sports Department and Yang Yang, Deputy Director General of BOCOG Sports Department on 17 November. The outdoor meeting was held in Xinhua Homeland Hotel in Yanqing.

Yang Shu’an extended warm welcome to the FIL delegation with President and General Secretary. Einars Fogelis expressed his gratitude towards the hard work that was put into the event by the venue team. “Especially the work of Zhang Xudong and Normunds Kotans was perfect. The two of them do an excellent job in the organisation for the sport of luge”, Einars Fogelis said. President Fogelis also praised the whole venue team and race organizing work, and also pointed out that the track is incomparable and highly recognized by the athletes.

Medal Plaza, Covid control policy, the injured Polish athlete and Security measures were further discussed in the outdoor meeting.

Einars Fogelis: "Our most important goal is to work for our athletes. Therefore, we also talked with the BOCOG officials and the track operator of the Yanqing Sliding Center about safety standards at the track, the much higher Covid-19 regulations in China than in Europe or North America, the conditions in the quarantine hotel and the future of luge in China and Asia".

The meeting ended in a very friendly way. Both sides expressed their expectations for a successful World Cup start and Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
