Fendt thanks the outgoing IOC President Rogge
Lausanne (pps) With the gift of a sculpture of a luge athlete, President Fendt expressed his appreciation on behalf of the International Luge Federation (FIL) to the outgoing President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge. Fendt presented the gift on Monday (August 5, 2013) at a meeting made possible on short notice in Lausanne. Fendt and the FIL always had a close and trustworthy cooperation with 71 year old Jacques Rogge from Belgium, during his 12 year term in office.
Rogge was initially elected for eight years as the eighth president of the IOC on July 16, 2001 at the 112th IOC General Meeting in Moscow as the successor of Juan Antonio Samaranch from Spain. In 2009, the former Olympic sailor was confirmed for a second term of four years. One of the central points of his policies was the restriction in the numbers of Olympic participants. Furthermore, he opposed the continual gigantism of the building projects as well as the commercialization. Through his initiative, the now established Youth Olympic Games was launched in 2010.
