Doha/Qatar (pps) In his capacity as member of the „Sports and Environment“ Commission of the International Olympic Committee, IOC, the President of the International Luge Federation, FIL, Josef Fendt, attended the World Congress on “Sport and the Environment” in Doha, Qatar. The FIL President also used this opportunity for numerous conversations, among others with IOC President Jacques Rogge, Gideon Sam, the President of the National Olympic Committee of South Africa as well as Pal Schmidt, State President of Hungary, IOC Member and Chairman of the Commission “Sports and Environment” On the sidelines of the Conference, South Africa once again underlined its intention to bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. As NOC President Sam mentioned in front of journalists, the upcoming IOC Session in Durban in July would represent another opportunity to promote this bid. At the 123rd IOC Session in Durban the IOC will vote for the host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The three candidates bidding to host the Winter Games are Annecy in France, Munich in Germany and Pyeongchang in South Korea.
