Paris (FIL/30 Jul. 2024) The International Luge Federation (FIL) signed the IOC “Sports for Climate Action Framework” agreement in Paris on July 30, 2024, thereby joining the international sports network for more climate protection. FIL President Einars Fogelis, IOC Chief Sustainability Officer Julie Duffus and FIL Secretary General Dwight Bell are delighted with the cooperation following the signing.

By participating in this initiative, the FIL is committing to the overarching mission of bringing the sports sector to net-zero emissions by mid-century, in line with the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Agreement.

Einars Fogelis commented: “We join the IOC on climate action and sustainability and celebrate the remarkable achievement of these environmental innovators at the heart of the Olympic Movement. The FIL is committed to achieving a target of at least 50% emissions reduction as soon as possible. We will consistently measure and publicly report our annual carbon footprint and progress in reducing emissions. We are working on a concrete plan on how to achieve the interim targets.”

At the political level, over 60 heads of state and government and heads of international organizations, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, have endorsed the commitments of the Paris Agreement for sport and sustainable development.
