Letter addressed to the National Federations for reassurance

Berchtesgaden. The International Luge Federation (FIL) has announced in Lausanne that it will stand by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as well as the Organizing Committee (SLOC) regarding security matters during the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City (February 8 – 24, 2002). „All winter sports federations are of the opinion that the Winter Games should be carried out. We do not have any doubts as far as security matters are concerned. Everything that can be done will be done in Salt Lake City. Through Mr. Gianfranco Kasper, President of the International Skiing Federation (FIS), we also informed the IOC President Jacques Rogge about our statement“, explained FIL President Josef Fendt on Friday after returning to Berchtesgaden.
Moreover, all winter sports federations will inform all of their national federation members by way of letters about the latest developments regarding security measures.
„With that, we want to reassure our people“, said Mr. Fendt.
After the terror attacks in New York and Washington, the IOC, with the Belgian Jacques Rogge at the top, has clearly spoken out in favour of staging the Winter Games.
